Location: Friedrichshafen Start: April Description of the department: The Payload and Platform products department develops and manufactures electronic components that are necessary for the operation of satellites, for the European and Export markets. The focus in Friedrichshafen lies in the area of mass storage (solid state recorder i.a. with compression encryption techniques), instrument controllers for radar and optical payloads, motor control system for actuators, power supplies (power control and distribution units, high voltage electronics, electronic power conditioner for TWTA). Topic: Your engagement is expected in the area of digital engineering for new products with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Machine learning (ML) algorithms and AI technologies have been used and integrated into our life to support us in our daily activities. This trend is also becoming more and more reality in the space industry. Health monitoring of spacecraft, intelligent control systems and predictive analysis are only few examples in the wide range of possibilities. To fulfil the requirements for ‘in space AI based applications’, a new range of hardware- and software-platforms are needed. As an intern you will learn about: In the context of this internship, you will work with our team to define and develop a digital platform for ‘in space AI applications’. Your Tasks: Analyzing and validating the applicability of existing AI techniques for space applications Validating of available space qualified hardware platforms (processors and FPGAs) Design of an AI demonstrator on a selected hardware platform Preparation of documentation and guidelines You offer: Enrolled Student (d/f/m) within Information Technology or similar field of study Knowledge of C/C++ programming Knowledge of embedded software development Basic knowledge in AI and ML algorithms English: fluent; German: would be a plus You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
