Job Description

We are seeking to recruit Junior Data Scientist (f/m/d) for HeidelbergCement's newly established Data Hub (Group RCC), which aims to provide dependable, high quality information in order to drive business decisions and growth.
The Junior Data Scientist will develop concepts for data harmonization, data architecture and data governance to facilitate self-service data modeling & reporting tools such as Tableau. The primary role of the Junior Data Scientist is to be first involved in the data mining phase in order to consolidate data on topics (e.g. CO2 emissions, sustainable income, etc). Mid-longer term, the successful candidate can potentially transition into a more analytical role either via Data Science or reporting solutions.
The person is part of a newly formed dynamic team and will be valued as an important contributor on measuring and reporting reliable global sustainability KPIs to the management.
The position is located in Heidelberg, Germany.

Your next challenge

  • Identify meaningful, reliable and accurate data across a scattered data landscape
  • Extract data from multiple partly unstructured sources
  • Clean data, establish a stable ETL process, and perform exploratory data analysis
  • Build KPI reports and communicate results to the management
  • Perform requirement engineering and investigate the reporting needs of different stakeholders and data stewards
  • At a later stage choose the right predictive or machine learning model for the respective business use case

Your profile

Must have:
  • University degree in Informatics / Computer Science, Business or Bio Informatics, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics or similar
  • Structured & target-oriented working with strong analytical skills
  • Database knowledge (experience in either MySQL, Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server or Teradata, etc)
  • Solid experience in programming tools (R, Python or SAS) and in SQL
  • Your spoken and written English is fluent
Nice to have:
  • Backend experience is a plus (e.g. in C# or Java)
  • Data wrangling / data mining experience
  • Machine learning experience
  • Big Data experience (Apache Spark or Talend or Hadoop)
  • Data visualization experience (Tableau or PowerBI or Google Data Studio/Qlik)
