The University Medicine Greifswald fulfills the tasks of the medical faculty in research and teaching as part of the University

Greifswald and in cooperation with the other faculties. With 21 clinics/polyclinics, 19 institutes and further central facilities

the University Medicine Greifswald performs its duties as maximum care hospital.

The Institute for Community Medicine at Greifswald University Medicine is leading in population-based health research,

focusing on cohort studies (e.g. Study of Health in Pomerania (SHIP) / German National Cohort), with more than two

published peer-reviewed papers per week in medical journals across a wide range of topics. We are collaborating in major

national and international research initiatives, such as NFDI4Health, euCanSHare, as well as DFG funded projects with

the goal of improving scientific standards in research data management, data analyses, and data quality assessments.

Projects also cover incidental findings, musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular research, and infectious diseases, using

data from research data collections as well as administrative data (eg, health insurance claims data).

We are looking for a scientist with a strong background in research methods, data analysis, and programming skills to

expand our scientific team. Responsibilities will take into account the experience of the applicant in the mentioned research

areas. We are offering the following third-party funded position:

Epidemiologist, R Developer or Scientific Software Developer

(m/f/d)

The position shall be either part-time or full-time subject to the available volume of third-party funds, for a fixed-term of

two years (according to the Law on Fixed-Term Employment Contracts- WissZeitVG) with the option for subsequent

renewal. Remote working options are possible.

Your tasks:

  • Advanced statistical analysis with a focus on methods for observational studies, using data from
primary and administrative sources
  • Methods development (eg in R, Stata)
  • Publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals
  • Support in academic teaching
  • Support in grant acquisitions

Our requirements:

  • University degree (MSc and/or PhD) in statistics, mathematics, biomathematics, bioinformatics, life
science or similar
  • Excellent data analysis & programming skills in R
  • Fluency in English and advanced skills in German
  • A highly structured workflow and the ability to work with methodological rigour
  • Very good communication and presentation skills

The following are considered as assets:

  • Experience developing R packages
  • Experience with data quality assessments
  • Advanced knowledge of Stata, SAS or other programming languages
  • Experience in database administration (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle)
  • Experience with epidemiological studies and administrative data
  • Publication track in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Knowledge of FAIR principles and international medical standards (eg SNOMED CT, LOIN, FHIR)
