Full time Data Engineering Big Data Software Engineering Data Governance

Job Description

Background and Role:

NRC's global strategic plan for 2022 - 2025 includes Digital Transformation as a strategic enabler for the organization and a key element in expanding the reach of our assistance towards the 2030 ambition. Within the Digital Transformation roadmap, data is recognized as a fundamental component of what we do and how we do it. As data becomes readily available, internal and external reporting burden on staff should significantly reduce and insights must inform decision-making.

In 2020, NRC created the Center of Excellence for Data and Analytics (CoE) to promote and support data use across the organization, including building capacity, processes and products. The CoE team is responsible for designing and developing data products that improve the organization's use of data, while increasing data quality and access to common data sets.

With the growing number of business systems across NRC, there is a need to streamline how data and analytics are performed across NRC teams to utilize relevant and quality data for their operational decision-making. The CoE is tasked with helping the organization achieve this goal by working on Data Products (internal and external reporting initiatives), improving data literacy and working on data governance through the adoption of data standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems
  • Support the build of data streaming systems
  • Write ETL scripts and code to make sure the ETL process performs optimally
  • Support Power App integrations
  • Support data management work

The Data Engineer will help the CoE deliver short- and long-term data projects that help the organization improve the use of data in decision-making. The Data Engineer will support the Product lead in working with NRC departments and offices to help them scope their data projects while identifying opportunities for the organization to standardize and consolidate data workflows.

  • Build and maintain several internal data services which will be used across the data product pipeline. This includes integration with business systems and the creation of a data repository for unified analytics.
  • Prepare technical documentation to ensure ease of handover of any data product once it is “in production”.

Employment with NRC may lead to employment in or deployment to Regions, Countries, Areas or Offices that may be host to considerable health, safety and security risks. NRC takes this very seriously and we have procedures in place to reduce known risks, but will never be able to take away all risks.
