We are looking for a Systems Metabolic Engineer to enhance our team and to help us build the next generation of machine learning applications for the bioeconomy.

Tasks

You will use modern machine learning frameworks to develop models for projects ranging from protein functional prediction to fermentation optimization. Additionally, you will build infrastructure that enables training and deploying deep learning models at scale. The tasks are diverse and non-repetitive, as we constantly receive new projects from industrial and academic partners. Successful projects will be highly automated via clean, maintainable code. You will work in a team with biologists, bioinformaticians and business analysts to create the newest tools to enable the bioeconomy.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Develop and deploy novel machine learning algorithms on biological and chemical data;
• Design terabyte-scale data pipelines;
• Keep up-to-date with the latest advances in the field;
• Drive long-term success by building or integrating new technologies;
• Push multiple projects allowing us to deliver useful tools to our partners as well as internal proof of concepts;
• Develop a scientific and technical vision of the venture together with a collaborative, interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial team.

Requirements

We define ourselves by a culture of ownership and cooperation. We are looking for driven, capable, visionary and prudent talents with proven track records of personal, academic and professional achievement:

• MSc or PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering, bioinformatics, machine learning, OR a biological/chemical background with significant, multi-year, demonstrable machine learning experience in industry;
• Exceptional competence in applied machine learning and software engineering and its application in biology;
• An understanding of basic molecular biology is essential to this role;
• Experience with several of the following technologies: Google Cloud Platform, TensorFlow, Apache Beam, Google Cloud ML, Docker, or PyTorch;
• Passion for exploration and execution of ‘proof of concept’ projects;
• Intense drive to learn new skills and utilize new technologies;
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment, dealing with uncertainty and building something from the ground up;
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
