Job Description

A vacancy for a “Navigation Integrity Algorithm and Performance Engineer (d/f/m)” has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Ottobrunn.

You will contribute to the upcoming development of the next generation of European satellite navigation systems in the fields of integrity, algorithms and performance.

You will join the Airbus Navigation Department at the Airbus site Taufkirchen near Munich. With more than 80 engineers and 20 years of experience it is one of the leading expert groups in Europe for the development and implementation of the European satellite navigation systems EGNOS and Galileo.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Development of system algorithms for safe positioning services
• Definition of integrity concepts and system-internal data processing functions
• Management of performance budgets in combination with underlying system modeling
• Responsibility for the definition and assessment of performance figures of merit aligned to system requirements
• Improvement of reliable high accuracy position determination algorithms on system and user level including some of the following algorithmic aspects: parameter estimation, precise orbit determination, time synchronization, integer ambiguity resolution, PPP-RTK correction generation, integrity-support message generation, signal bias handling, Kalman filter and sensor fusion.
• Implementation of algorithms for performance trade-off studies and detailed evaluation in the frame of the Airbus system analysis software

Required skills:

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and experiences:

• You are educated to a Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Geodesy, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• You hold (or you are close to receive) a PhD related to one of the areas of work
• You demonstrated advanced developments related to the satellite navigation systems GPS, EGNOS or Galileo
• You have a strong mathematical background for algorithm development
• You have a good knowledge on system, receiver and user algorithms including safe and advanced positioning concepts (e.g. ARAIM, SBAS, PPP-RTK)
• You have good knowledge in modeling of statistical processes
• You are experienced in systems engineering processes, Python, C++ or Matlab
• You are able to analyze complex technical problems and define innovative solutions
• You have good interpersonal and very good verbal and written communication skills
• You speak German and English to negotiation level
• You are ready to obtain a national security clearance
