It is in the nature of complex systems that not all operating cases can be foreseen and may cause anomalies. For highly complex safe systems like autonomous cars, it becomes a requirement to learn from the analysis of such anomalies. We offer a doctoral thesis which investigates the software and hardware architecture for such a remote diagnosis system. This architecture has many aspects. A particular focus will be on the security aspects. The thesis will be written in cooperation with TU München and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Georg Sigl.
The tasks within the thesis will consist of:

  • Evaluating the architecture on all levels – from the microcontroller to the cloud;
  • Considering all aspects like safety, security, real time, function, features, performance and cost;
  • Collaborating with partners in an international funding project;
  • Collecting and analyzing the state of the art in research and commercial systems;
  • Collecting requirements and developing a system demonstrator focusing on innovative aspects;
  • Analyzing results based on the demonstrator system;
  • Interpreting and deploying results in reports, papers, etc. and at conferences;
  • Deriving requirements for future systems and components.

As the ideal candidate you:

  • Possess a master or diploma degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics , Computer Science or a related field of study;
  • Ideally gained practical experience preferably in the field of software;
  • Have strong embedded programming skills;
  • Are curious to learn new things and have a can-do mentality ;
  • Show passion about the future of autonomous driving and want to work in a cool and international team of engineers;
  • Possess excellent English skills , German is highly appreciated.
