The Role
This test engineer will work on a team to help further the understanding of lithium ion cell performance through cell testing. They will develop cycle life test plans to evaluate battery performance over time to monitor capacity fade and impedance growth, develop test plans, setup fixtures and test schedules, execute to the plan and report on the results.
Responsibilities

  • Execution and maintenance of lithium ion cell tests using cell cycling equipment, specialized temperature control fixtures and circulators.
  • Write test plans, propose design of experiments and summarize results in test reports.
  • Build and assemble fixturing for battery testing.
  • Perform cell level destructive physical analysis and other analytical techniques to analyze mechanisms of energy and power loss in lithium ion cells.
  • Ensure the highest possible data integrity from the lab.
  • Be a member of a cross functional product development team to help determine the ideal cell chemistry and design for Tesla products.


Requirements

  • Experience with hands-on lithium ion battery cell testing
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment used in battery cell testing or equivalent
  • Some coding experience preferred (i.e. MATLAB, Python, and/or similar data analysis tool)
  • Ability to learn new concepts and methods, propose design of experiments, and execute independently
  • Familiar with calibration and maintenance of test equipment
  • Understanding of lithium ion cell safety and its risks
