Join our Data Engineering team and you’ll be developing custom solutions for our demanding clients from day one – supported by experienced colleagues every step of the way.

Working field:

You’ll become an expert at the intersection of AI, Life Science & Healthcare and Software Engineering, with a deep expertise in technology.

You’ll design databases, develop – and execute – software architectures, analyse data and implement mathematical models, as well as gradually taking more and more responsibility for your projects. You’ll be in frequent and direct personal contact with our suppliers and clients but, with ever-present support from your mentor and our self-developed, comprehensive training modules, you’ll never feel out of your depth.


You are passionate about your studies

  • You are currently enrolled on a bachelor's degree (fifth semester or beyond) or a master's degree, with very good academic results, in a data-driven subject with a strong exposition to software engineering (such as computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, statistics)

You have a passion for software in combination with data analysis and some of the following statements match your profile

  • You’re proficient in Python development
  • You can tell the difference between programming and software engineering
  • You’re well versed in database design and management
  • You’re comfortable working in a Linux environment
  • You have experience using software version control tools
  • You have some knowledge of RESTful API design
  • You have some knowledge of ETL-architecture
  • You have some knowledge of container technology
  • Some knowledge of AWS or GCP services is a plus
  • You currently live in Berlin or the surrounding area and are able to work from our office. (This position is not suitable for those who work exclusively from home)
  • You are available to work at idalab for 20 hours a week and are open to working extra hours during semester break (fully compensated)
  • During your first two weeks at idalab (the onboarding phase) you’re able to work full time (fully compensated)
  • You’re able to commit to a six-week internship at some point during your first six months at idalab, which will give you the opportunity to explore the role of Data Engineer from a full-time perspective (fully compensated)
  • Ideally, you have at least six or more months left within your studies
  • Ideally, you have full proficiency in written and spoken German and English. Full proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory. In German at least B1 level is required; additionally, applicants should commit to constantly enhancing their German speaking skills.

  • Particularly high-performing students can be promoted to Junior Associate (€18,50 per hour plus transparent annual profit share) while still at university

  • First comes an online test, which assesses basic knowledge of python, SQL and software engineering
  • Next, you’ll be invited to a video interview, during which we want to learn more about your motivation and your ability to explain the technologies
  • You are then invited to solve our data engineering case study, using your conceptual and technical skills
  • On interview day, you get to present your solution to the team. You’ll also have the opportunity to get to know your future colleagues, in a total of three individual interviews
