In the area of ​​IT process support research, we are looking for reinforcement for the further development of research data management and the development of the offers of the consortium "NFDI-MatWerk" within the framework of the national research data infrastructure.

You have successfully completed vocational training as an IT specialist or a comparable qualification.

Your personal qualities include:

  • Curiosity and an interest in learning new technologies
  • Enjoy working in a team
  • Strong communication skills and an independent way of working
  • A soft spot for open-source software
  • Language skills in German and English

Ideally, you already have knowledge and experience with one or more of the following points:

  • Linux system administration
  • Web technologies, especially REST interfaces
  • Build and continuous integration pipelines e.g. GitLab and GitLab CI
  • Backend technologies like Docker or Kubernetes
  • „Infrastructure as Code“ z.B. mit Consul, Terraform und Vault

Your tasks

Within the "NFDI-MatWerk" project, research data management services for researchers in materials science and engineering are being developed in a consortium of national partners. The digital data room created in the project is intended to depict the complex relationships between different types of material data and make them easily usable in order to achieve synergy effects between the scientific groups and disciplines. It should be possible to address this knowledge graph-based infrastructure in order to enable fast, complex search queries and evaluations and make the data usable for approaches in the areas of big data and artificial intelligence.

You will be part of the "Research Process and Data Management" group at the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University. As part of the "Cross-Functional" SCRUM team, you are responsible for the development and provision of infrastructures for collaboration and management of research data in the "Community Cloud".

Your responsibilities include:

  • You plan the IT infrastructure for NFDI-MatWerk as a "community cloud" and use container technologies to deploy services (Elasticsearch, Consul, Vault, Traefik).
  • You ensure the reliability and scalability of the software systems and implement monitoring and logging concepts.
  • You design and improve the continuous integration and deployment pipelines for our software stack (HTML5, TypeScript, C#, Python).
  • They participate in open-source projects that serve as the basis for our applications.
  • You will work hand-in-hand in a team of software developers and scientists with different professional backgrounds.
  • You support the creation of technical documentation and create tests for existing functions.
