Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN)

The Senckenberg Society for Nature Research is the largest institution of the Leibniz Association. It was founded in 1817 by citizens of Frankfurt and still considers itself a “citizens’ society” today, supported by over 7,000 members. For over 200 years, Senckenberg scientists have been researching the Earth-human system – conducting “integrative geobiodiversity research.” This is based on the ambitious goal of understanding nature with its almost infinite diversity in order to preserve it as a basis of life for future generations and to use it sustainably. In the fight against the global challenges, be it climate change, species extinction, or environmental pollution, we offer approaches to solutions in dialogue with society. The basis for this are our scientific collections as archives of nature.
