Thyssengas GmbH

Thyssengas GmbH, based in Dortmund, is one of the leading gas transmission system operators in Germany. The company looks back on a 100-year history and a high level of expertise: in 1921, the predecessor company built the first gas transmission system in Germany and did pioneering work for the entire industry in many areas. Thyssengas' infrastructure is mainly located in North Rhine-Westphalia. Thyssengas plays a significant role in supplying energy to many important industrial companies and providing heat to millions of people in northwest Germany. The company transports around six billion cubic meters of natural gas annually via the 4,200-kilometer-long underground transmission system - around a tenth of consumption in the whole of Germany. The natural gas is delivered to downstream networks, industrial customers and power plants at more than 1,000 exit points. Thyssengas thus supplies around 20 percent of the population throughout Germany. Thyssengas is connected to national and international transmission system operators. In addition, Thyssengas is connected to important storage facilities in Germany. In order to ensure a comprehensive and convenient supply for consumers in the future, Thyssengas is continuing to expand the network in line with demand. Thyssengas sees itself as an active part of the energy transition and, with its long-distance pipeline network, forms the backbone for the transformation of the energy system into a CO2-neutral world. Hydrogen will play a key role in decarbonization. Thyssengas is active in numerous future projects and initiatives on the topic of hydrogen. The company is also investing in innovative solutions in the field of digitalization and artificial intelligence. Thyssengas employs around 520 people at a total of seven locations.
