Magdeburg University Medicine comprises the Faculty of Medicine of the Otto von Guericke University and the Magdeburg University Hospital, a public corporation. Both have distinct legal statuses and fulfill their shared responsibilities through a cooperative model. Research, teaching, and patient care are therefore inextricably linked at Magdeburg University Medicine. The two research priorities, "Neuroscience" and "Immunology, including Molecular Medicine of Inflammation," are excellently networked at the regional and international levels and successfully acquire third-party funding at the national and EU levels. The shared goal is the development of new therapies and their implementation for patients. Currently, more than 1,500 medical students are enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine. With approximately 1,120 beds, the Magdeburg University Hospital is the largest healthcare facility in northern Saxony-Anhalt.
