The Senckenberg Society for Natural Research was founded in 1817 by committed Frankfurt citizens as the Senckenberg Natural Research Society. Today it is one of the most important research institutions for all aspects of biological diversity and, with the Frankfurter Haus, one of the largest natural history museums in Europe.
