The LANUV is the scientific and technical authority for nature, the environment and consumer protection in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. We monitor the quality of air, water and soil, help to preserve biological diversity and are committed to protecting consumers as well as animal health and animal welfare. Around 1,400 employees with a wide range of training, specializations and qualifications work in these diverse areas of responsibility. The headquarters of the state authority is in Recklinghausen, two other main locations are in Essen and Duisburg and numerous branch offices are spread across the entire state.
