We are seeking a Team Lead and Coordinator for the Machine Learning research group at the University Hospital Frankfurt am Main. Shape the future of medical AI research within the RACOON network – Germany's largest multicenter radiology research initiative with 38 university hospitals (https://racoon.network). You will coordinate strategic projects and lay the foundation for prototype medical AI solutions with real commercialization potential.

The position is initially limited to 12 months.

Your tasks:

Strategic coordination & interface management

  • Orchestration of the collaboration between ML engineers, clinical researchers, IT infrastructure and RACOON consortium partners of over 38 institutions
  • Translating clinical requirements into technical specifications as a central interface between radiology and AI development
  • Navigating academic and medical hierarchies while maintaining operational efficiency
  • Coordination of project milestones and reporting for BMBF-funded projects (RACOON, COMPARE, ENRICH)

Team Culture & Process Development

  • Building scalable workflows for data pipelines, model development, and deployment
  • Designing a team culture with a focus on ownership, rapid iteration, and translation-oriented research
  • Mentoring of master's students, doctoral candidates and junior team members

Infrastructure planning & resource management

  • Coordination of technical infrastructure: prioritization and management of GPU compute resources, training and deployment environments
  • Establishment of common standards for medical data processing (DICOM, FHIR), containerization, model versioning

Prototype translation

  • Identification of medically relevant solutions and coordination of early prototype development
  • Ensuring that AI models are not only publishable, but actually implementable in clinical workflows

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in (medical) informatics, physics, mathematics, data science or comparable field
  • 3+ years of experience in coordinating technical teams or complex multi-stakeholder projects
  • Demonstrable ability to translate between clinical-medical and technical-engineering domains

Technical Foundation

  • Strong programming skills in Python with experience in modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Proficient in using Linux environments, Bash scripting, containerization (Docker, Singularity)
  • Understanding of medical data standards (DICOM, FHIR) and data protection requirements

Soft Skills & Working Method

  • Excellent communication with clinicians, engineers, administrators and funders
  • Independent and solution-oriented even with limited infrastructure support
  • Excellent German skills and good English skills
  • Due to legal regulations, valid proof of measles immunity / measles vaccination is required.
