The Data Services department, with its four areas – Applications, Bioinformatics, Infrastructure, and Software Development – ​​represents a crucial interface to our operational business. These tasks await you:
  • The development of proof-of-concepts and prototypes for new technologies and analysis concepts is in your hands.
  • You will assume central responsibility for the entire data stream – from raw data acquisition through automated analysis pipelines to final archiving.
  • You are responsible for the design, orchestration, and continuous development of fully automated production processes that function reliably across a heterogeneous system and software landscape.
  • You will be responsible for the design and implementation of a generic, scalable architecture (hardware & software) to efficiently support a wide variety of analysis and data processing processes.
  • Your responsibilities include the development and maintenance of monitoring and observability solutions to ensure data quality, completeness, and process stability at all times.
  • You are responsible for troubleshooting, error analysis and escalation management based on a structured ticketing system.
  • You will work closely with the laboratory, scientists and other specialist departments to gather requirements, coordinate technical solutions and implement process optimizations.
  • Your responsibilities include contributing to internal development projects and coordinating with external partners in the integration of new technologies, tools, or supplier solutions.
  • You will be responsible for knowledge transfer and training of colleagues on new processes, tools or software solutions.
You bring the following:
Must-haves:
  • You have a completed Master's degree or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Data Science or a comparable field and have already gained at least 2 years of professional experience.
  • You have very good knowledge of Python 3.x , Linux , BASH , Git , Conda , FastAPI or a modern web framework , PostgreSQL as well as workflow systems (e.g. Nextflow ) and a good overview of state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools , pipelines and validation frameworks.
  • You have knowledge of human genetics as well as the analysis of NGS data and IT infrastructure (servers, storage, container environments, virtualization).
  • You already have experience in managing and administering computer systems (especially Linux).
  • A sense of responsibility, teamwork skills, and very good German and English skills complete your profile.
Nice-to-have:
  • You have basic knowledge of automation, machine learning / AI, statistics and quantitative data analysis.
  • You have already gained experience with Docker , docker-compose , CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments, as well as with network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS).
  • You have experience in the field of monitoring and observability (ElasticSearch, Kibana, Grafana or similar).
  • You have knowledge of cloud-based software development (e.g., Azure, GCP) as well as an understanding of software design and design patterns.
  • You have already gained experience in Next.js and TypeScript and in handling sensitive data (e.g. GDPR, GenDG).
  • You have experience in quality assurance, validation and documentation, as well as knowledge of IT security and secure software development processes.
