Location : Institute of Pathology - Nephropathology Working Group/ Boor-

Working hours: 100% of the full collectively agreed working hours (currently 38.5 hours/week)
Fixed-term contract: initially for 1 year in accordance with the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG), with the option of extension and doctoral studies

Start date: as soon as possible.
Salary: pay grade EG 13 (TV-L)

We are an interdisciplinary and international team of scientists and physicians based at the Institute of Pathology. Our team has many years of experience in developing new methods in the fields of digital pathology, image analysis, and deep learning, including a novel omics approach – Next Generation Morphometry (Pathomics). We also place great emphasis on energy-efficient and sustainable AI ("green AI"), as well as safe and explainable AI.

Our hardware includes a high-performance computing infrastructure with multiple GPU clusters (NVIDIA DGX A100), CPU clusters, and data servers. We also possess a unique and continuously growing collection of both preclinical datasets and large international, multicenter patient datasets.

Your tasks

  • Development and management of multicenter, international pathology image datasets including additional data modalities (omics) and clinical data
  • Ensuring data quality and documentation in accordance with the FAIR principles
  • Ensuring legal and regulatory compliance
  • Curation of datasets to support researchers, including preprocessing and quality control of image data
  • Collaboration with IT services and AI scientists in the administration of the hardware (data servers, GPU clusters)
  • Development of new approaches to managing pathology data
  • Integration of the data into an emerging national research infrastructure for pathology data

Your profile

To support our research in Digital Pathology, we are seeking a Data Manager: a highly motivated and reliable individual with strong technical and organizational skills. Responsibilities include managing and curating image datasets (with associated clinical and molecular data) from biomedical AI research, as well as applying and adapting methods for analyzing high-resolution image data.

  • Completed university degree (Master's, PhD or equivalent) in computer science, data science, biomedical informatics, data management, engineering or a related field
  • Experience in research data management, preferably in handling clinical data
  • Experience with Linux, file systems and databases
  • Knowledge in the areas of data protection and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in system administration
    • Programming skills
    • Experience in image processing
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, especially in working with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, IT specialists, biologists and clinicians.
  • Excellent English skills (level C2 or higher)
  • A reliable and structured way of working
  • Enthusiasm for biomedical research
