Most AI models built today never go into production. Not because the technology doesn't work – but because no one has defined what business problem they actually solve. That's precisely where this role comes in. As a Consultant for GenAI & Machine Learning in our Digital & AI Services division, you'll guide clients through the entire lifecycle: Strategize – Design – Build – Grow. You'll identify the use case, calculate the business case, design the architecture – and be there when the solution goes live.

This is a consulting role. You'll be working on behalf of a client, in unfamiliar system landscapes, with data that's rarely as clean as in the tutorials. If you only want to build models, this isn't the right place. And neither is if you only want to advise.

We fill this position at both junior and senior levels. The difference isn't the role itself – but how much of it you'll be solely responsible for.

You will be responsible for our clients' data projects and will further develop the value creation from their data. Specifically:

• Strategize: You identify GenAI and ML potential along your customers' value chain and evaluate it based on a solid business case – and you also reject projects that only look promising. Formats like our AI Boostcamp (2 weeks) are your tool, not your final product.
• Design: You design AI architectures and make decisions regarding model, data foundation, and integration – transparently considering costs, latency, data privacy, and maintainability. Whether RAG, fine-tuning, or classic ML: you choose based on the problem, not the hype.
• Build: You will build Proofs of Concepts (PoCs), Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), and live services with our data analysts and the software developers of the UNITY Innovation Alliance. We do not provide concepts.
• Grow: You bring solutions into the company and keep them there: evaluations, monitoring, data governance, and the question of where the model decides and where people decide.
• Advise CAIOs*, CIOs*, Head of AI* and Data Analysts on the path to becoming an AI-Driven Company – in workshops, steering committees and, if necessary, against resistance.

What you work with: Copilot Studio, Langdock, Azure, AWS, Power Automate, n8n, Agentic Coding with Claude Code, Jira.

At UNITY, you'll work with AI that we build ourselves: Our central AI team is constantly rolling out new solutions, and you can help shape your own AI solutions through coding communities, hackathons, and AI labs. We deploy AI for clients, for example, using our proprietary UNITY X platform.

Must-have – at junior level:

• Initial experience as a consultant* in management consulting, as a data scientist*, ML engineer* or product owner* – from work studies, internships, thesis or first years of professional experience.
• You have built at least one GenAI or ML project yourself – even if it was "only" a university or side project. You can explain why you chose a particular method and what almost caused it to fail.
• Solid foundations in machine learning and generative AI (e.g. DNN, LLM, embeddings, RAG) – beyond simply operating chat interfaces.
• Python and SQL are tools for you to work with, not exam material.
• Concise communication and presentation skills in German (from C1) and English (from B2).
• A very good degree in a field relevant to the position.
• Willingness to travel for client meetings.

Additionally at the senior level:

• At least 4 years in a consulting or comparable role with client responsibility – you are familiar with changing client organizations, offer logic and the difference between what the client orders and what they need.
• You have successfully implemented several GenAI or ML solutions in production – not just as a proof of concept. You can discuss at least one of them in detail for an hour.
• Experience with generative AI beyond prompting: RAG, agent orchestration, evaluations and guardrails – you know why a model fails differently in production than in a notebook.
• You move confidently at the decision-making level: You moderate workshops, hold your own in a steering committee, and deliver bad news early instead of good news.
• Experience with cloud-based architectures (Azure, AWS or similar) and with integration into existing system landscapes (ERP, CRM, MES or similar).

Nice-to-have:

• MLOps or LLMOps experience: Deployment, monitoring, model registry, cost control in operation.
• Data Analytics (PowerBI, Tableau, R) and experience with graph and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, neo4j, GraphQL).
• Experience in data governance or with the EU AI Act and its translation into product decisions.
• Agile mindset and experience as a Product Owner* or Scrum Master*.
• Industry expertise in, among others, automotive, mechanical and plant engineering, and the public sector.

• If you want to build models without talking about business benefits: With us, every project begins with the question of what it brings to the customer – and sometimes ends with a no.
• If your AI experience essentially consists of prompting and tool evaluation: We are looking for people who understand what is happening beneath the surface.
• If you want to work on a data landscape that you own and know: Here, customers, systems, and data quality change – everyday consulting work including travel.
• If research is your goal: We don't publish, we deliver. We use state-of-the-art technology, we don't expand upon it.
