Bringing ML research into application
dida develops customized machine learning software for the public sector, academia, and industrial and enterprise clients, including Siemens, Deutsche Bahn, idealo, klöckner.i, and Enpal. Our team combines scientific excellence with real-world business requirements and is committed to the responsible development of AI.
Many of our industrial projects begin with a concept or evaluation workshop. Together with the decision-makers, we assess use cases and the available data, transforming vague ideas into a concrete project roadmap. We are currently developing this workshop format into a dedicated consulting service. For this, we are looking for someone with practical experience in data science and client projects to assume technical responsibility during this early project phase.
Your role: technical responsibility in the concept phase
You are the technical voice of dida during the project development phase. In workshops, you sit down with the client's business department and IT team. You review the data and assess a realistic project scope. You work closely with our sales and account management teams, coordinating solutions and effort estimates with our machine learning scientists who handle the implementation of larger projects. Over time, you will become the technical face of dida for specific industries.
Your tasks
- Leading technical workshops : You prepare the content for concept and evaluation workshops and conduct them together with account management. Your role focuses on the technical details: You evaluate use cases based on the available data and assess their feasibility.
- You 'll delve into the data and build things yourself : You'll analyze customer sample data in Python and create clickable prototypes or small demos that make workshop results tangible. For smaller projects, you'll also handle the implementation yourself. This role will grow with the number of projects we win.
- Technical follow-up : You translate workshop results into a technical roadmap and are responsible for the technical part of the offer, including effort estimation.
- Provide technical support for sales : You will be the technical contact person for discovery calls and feasibility questions. Commercial responsibility for accounts, offers, pricing, and negotiations lies with account management.
- Further develop standards : You will expand our workshop frameworks and templates, which we reuse for every new client.
Your profile
For this role, we need both sides: hands-on experience in data science and experience in client projects, preferably in consulting. Overall, you should have 2 to 5 years of professional experience.
- Data science from your own experience : You have worked with machine learning models in projects and are proficient in Python and databases. You can assess which method is suitable for a use case and what data it requires, from classic machine learning to LLM-based approaches.
- Experience in client projects : You have implemented projects directly with clients and prepared and moderated meetings with specialist departments and management. This could have been in a consulting firm, at an IT or AI service provider, in a solutions or pre-sales role, or in applied research with industry partners.
- Education : Very good degree in a quantitative subject, for example computer science, mathematics, physics, data science or engineering.
- Presenting to clients : You approach people openly and moderate discussions confidently. You explain technical content in a way that is equally understandable to both the business department and IT.
- Languages : You speak fluent German (C2 level) because our workshops and offerings are primarily conducted in German. Fluent English is required for internal collaboration.
- Hands-on mentality: You try things out directly and enjoy quickly building a first prototype.
- Teamwork : You enjoy working closely in a team. Sharing knowledge and giving direct feedback are important to you.
Even if you don't meet every requirement, we welcome your application. If your primary interest is in development or research, one of our Machine Learning Scientist positions would likely be a better fit.
Why should you choose us?
- Development work : You help build a young consulting service from the very beginning and see the impact of your work directly on the customer.
- Team : Nearly 40 people from different disciplines with a strong background in mathematics and physics, many of them with PhDs.
- Real AI projects: You'll be driving projects like anomaly detection on railways for Deutsche Bahn or AI agents in industrial customer service. A selection of other projects can be found here. We regularly receive awards for our work, including the Microsoft AI for Earth Award.
- Short communication channels : Direct collaboration with management.
- Flexibility : Flexible working hours and hybrid working, full-time or part-time.
- Location : Beautiful office with good coffee in Berlin-Kreuzberg near Moritzplatz. An office in Frankfurt am Main (planned) or elsewhere is possible by arrangement. Many of our clients are located in southern and southwestern Germany.
