Job Description

At HUK-COBURG's Data Analytics Team, we transform data into real added value for over 13 million customers. As Germany's leading motor insurer, we are a long-established and stable company that invests strategically in innovation and its data-driven future. Our agile Data Analytics teams use state-of-the-art machine learning and AI methods to optimize processes, calculate fair prices, manage claims digitally and intelligently, and develop new, innovative insurance products.

We develop, for example, intelligent agent systems that autonomously plan, decide, and execute complex tasks. For this, we are looking for an experienced Data Scientist (m/f/d) to combine modern AI methods with sound statistical expertise and to translate scientific methods into productive applications.

You can look forward to that.

  • Conception and implementation of machine learning and GenAI solutions for business processes in the insurance industry – from claims management to customer service and internal processes.
  • Development and optimization of (agentic) AI systems based on modern LLMs
  • Architecture, implementation and operation of productive AI frameworks in cloud environments
  • Development of statistical methods and evaluation frameworks for measuring quality, robustness, and business impact
  • Optimizing model inference, latency, and resource efficiency for scalable AI applications
  • Close collaboration with engineering, product teams and specialist departments to transfer prototypes into production systems

Your profile

  • An above-average completed degree (at least a Master's, ideally a PhD) in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics or a comparable quantitative field.
  • Several years of experience in data science, machine learning or AI engineering, as well as in the development of productive AI systems.
  • A sound understanding of the statistical and mathematical foundations of modern machine learning methods, in particular statistical inference, probability theory, experimental design and causal modeling.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python as well as practical experience with modern ML and DL frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, Hugging Face or similar technologies)
  • Practical experience in developing agentic AI systems with LLMs, including RAG, tool calling, structured outputs, reasoning workflows, and multi-agent systems.
  • Deep understanding of LLM and agent architectures at the system level, including agent orchestration, planning, inference optimization, context management, evaluation of agent behavior, and scaling of production AI systems.
  • Hybrid work model: Willingness to be present in Coburg
Our benefits
  • Employer contributions: Your bonus on top of your salary – 13.3 monthly salaries, performance-related pay, mobility allowances, employee savings plans
  • Further development: Achieve your goals – qualification measures, subsidies for self-education measures, in-house training center
  • Flexibility: Good work and a good life go hand in hand - the option to work up to half of your monthly working hours from home or on the go.
  • Work-life balance: Work when it's best for you – flexible working hours with flextime, 31.5 days of vacation, Christmas and New Year's Eve off.
  • Work & Family: To ensure you feel comfortable with us, we create the right conditions – support with childcare and holiday care as well as family care and part-time management positions.
