The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, in the Research Department, is seeking to fill a part-time position (20 hours/week) as soon as possible.

Research Data Management Staff Member (m/f/d)
- Reference: 41-2026 FDM -

The position is to be filled on a temporary basis until February 28, 2028.

As part of its target agreement with the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWK), Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is pursuing the establishment of university-wide governance for research data management (RDM) in accordance with the FAIR principles, as well as the development of subject-specific research data guidelines by December 31, 2027. To implement this strategic task, a position for the introduction and support of research data management (RDM) needs to be filled as soon as possible within the Research Unit.

The job holder (m/f/d) will be responsible for the following tasks in particular :

  • Development and implementation of a university-wide strategy for research data management in coordination with university management, faculties, central institutions and university research institutes,
  • Development of a governance structure for research data management, taking into account the FAIR principles as well as national and international standards,
  • Development of guidelines for implementing the FAIR principles in accordance with the guidelines of HSZG, relevant third-party funding bodies and applicable scientific standards,
  • Development of subject-specific research data guidelines in accordance with the target agreement with the SMWK,
  • Analysis of existing processes, systems and support services, as well as development of recommendations for the further development of the research infrastructure,
  • Advising researchers on the planning, documentation, storage, archiving and reuse of research data,
  • Development of information, consulting and training services for research data management,
  • Conceptualization of structures and processes including handouts and the implementation of training courses or workshops for HSZG members on FDM,
  • Networking of the university with regional and supra-regional RDM initiatives and specialist networks.

The following knowledge and skills are required.

  • Successfully completed university studies, preferably in STEM or economics fields,
  • Knowledge of national and international developments in research data management,
  • Knowledge of the FAIR principles and the Open Science movement,
  • Knowledge of the requirements of relevant third-party funding providers (DFG, BMBF, EU),
  • Experience in project or change management,
  • Experience in developing guidelines, concepts or governance structures,
  • Knowledge of legal frameworks (data protection, copyright, research ethics),
  • Academically acquired knowledge or professional experience in the areas of data management and the digitization of processes, preferably in the academic field,
  • Knowledge of the structures and working methods of universities, research institutions or comparable institutions.

Furthermore, the following are desirable

  • Expertise in the areas of Open Data, Open Science, and Open Access,
  • Practical knowledge in the field of preparing and conducting training courses and workshops, as well as pedagogical and didactic skills.

Remuneration is based on qualifications and experience, up to pay grade 11 TV-L . The primary place of work is Zittau.
