THE ROLE
Data is at the heart of how we grow, optimize, and innovate our e-commerce business at Canyon. As a (Senior) Data Engineer in our Digital department, you lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable automated data ingestion pipelines, including technical governance and architecture ownership. You bring our commercial, CRM, and marketing data into Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery) to establish Canyon’s data warehouse for advanced analytics, data science, and AI applications.
YOUR JOB AS PART OF THE CANYON CREW
- Pipeline Engineering & Integration: Building resilient pipelines ingests high-volume e-commerce data from enterprise systems (SAP ERP/Datasphere, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Service Cloud) and digital marketing channels (Google Ads, Meta Ads, Google Analytics, web events) into BigQuery.
- Technical Governance: Defining data ingestion standards, source-to-target mappings, pipeline SLAs, access management (IAM), and security controls ensures robust system integrity.
- Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure: Designing, deploying, and maintaining Canyon’s GCP data warehouse environment (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Workflows, Pub/Sub, dbt, external APIs) optimizes overall data flow.
- Data Reliability: Overseeing data quality, observability, error handling, and troubleshooting frameworks (monitoring, logging, alerting, fixing) guarantees high data availability for downstream applications.
- Software Engineering Excellence: Implementing software engineering best practices within the data team establishes version control (Git), automated CI/CD deployment pipelines, containerization (Docker), and automated pipeline testing.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering closely with IT system engineers maintains data consistency with source systems while providing hands-on support to data analyst:s and data scientist:s in downstream data transformation.
- Discoverability: Ensuring transparency and accessibility of pipelines and solutions for the wider data team is achieved through comprehensive in-system and external documentation.
HOW YOU BECOME PART OF THE RACE
- Educational Background: A degree in data engineering, computer science, business informatics, or a closely related field forms the foundation of your expertise.
- Professional Experience: 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience, accompanied by a proven track record of building production-grade data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), sets your profile apart.
- Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Python, expert-level SQL skills, and extensive experience building robust REST/GraphQL API connectors define your technical capabilities.
- Enterprise & E-Commerce Data: Demonstrated experience in extracting and integrating data from enterprise systems (SAP BTP/CPI/Datasphere, Salesforce), e-commerce platforms, and digital tools (Google, Meta, Contentsquare, SEO tools, web scraping) characterizes your career.
- DevOps & Infrastructure: Hands-on expertise in setting up, testing, and documenting CI/CD workflows for data infrastructure, Docker, and Terraform shapes your daily work.
- Data Governance & Security: Strong knowledge of cloud security standards, IAM role management, and data cataloging/lineage frameworks brings essential compliance know-how.
- Mindset & Soft Skills: Pragmatic problem-solving abilities paired with strong ownership enable independent architecture decisions and effective collaboration across business and IT teams.
- Language Skills: Excellent English communication skills (both spoken and written) allow for seamless collaboration across international teams and departments.
