Your tasks...

As a Senior Data Scientist / Senior AI Engineer (m/f/d) in the AI ​​& Applications division of areto, you will build productive AI and ML solutions for our clients. From RAG/agent architectures and intelligent document processing to classic ML and MLOps use cases within the context of larger data platform technologies (Databricks, Snowflake, Fabric),
you will build production-ready software—using code-first approaches in Python, with AI as an integral part of your development workflow. For you, low-code is a tool in your toolbox, not a replacement for clean engineering.
You will take on technical responsibility in projects and tenders, drive architectural decisions, and act as a sparring partner for clients and colleagues.

• Design & implementation of GenAI solutions (RAG, Agentic Workflows, Chatbots) using zbLang Chain / Lang Graph, LLM Services, Fast API, Qdrant and Docker.
• Development of classic ML/Analytics solutions (Forecasting, Scoring, Segmentation) including clean feature engineering and evaluation.
• Building production-ready, documented data and ML pipelines with a focus on developer experience, testability, and maintainability.
• ML Ops& Monitoring: Model-Lifecycle, Drift-/Quality-Monitoring, LLM-Evaluation (ML flow/Langfuse), CI/CD.
• Technical design and architectural decisions (e.g., Build-vs-Buy) together with the team.
• Translating customer requirements into viable solutions—including PoCs, effort estimation, and customer communication.
• Conducting customer workshops for requirements gathering or use case identification

Your profile...

• Several years of experience (senior level) in data science and/or AI engineering with demonstrable productive projects.
• Python at a very good level — Developer Experience is important to you, not just "it works somehow".
• Routine use of AI-supported coding workflows (e.g., Claude Code or GitHub Copilot) in everyday development.
• Solid ML fundamentals and practical LLM/GenAI experience (RAG, Prompt Engineering, Monitoring, Guardrails).
• Consulting/customer skills: you can explain technical topics in an understandable way and justify decisions.
• Taking initiative in documentation and knowledge sharing — you leave projects better documented than when you found them.
• Excellent German and good English skills (C2 level).

If life were a wish concert, then...

• Experience with agent frameworks (Lang Graph) or workflow automation (n8n).
• Full-stack experience (e.g., Vue.js / FastAPI) for internal tools and data frontends.
• Experience with on-premium/air-gapped LLM deployments
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, AWS).
• Experience in advising clients on AI strategy and AI governance topics
