Data Scientist Applied AI (f/m/x)

Your tasks

As a Data Scientist for Applied AI, you'll work directly with our clients: in workshops, in ongoing collaboration with departments from Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations, and during on-site go-lives. Based on our DecisionOS Platform, you'll develop solutions that don't just end up on your laptop, but transform decisions in our clients' everyday lives. You'll spend most of your time understanding client problems and mapping them to the machine learning, GenAI, and data capabilities that the platform provides.

• You manage customer cases from a technical perspective: classifying requirements, assessing feasibility, setting expectations – in direct coordination with the customer's specialist department.
• You conduct the technical discussion with the client: You explain results in a way that is understood by the specialist department and make it transparent why a result looks the way it does.
• You configure and improve forecasting and optimization solutions on the DecisionOS Platform – from selecting the right capability to data connectivity and evaluation.
• You bring solutions into production and ensure that they run stably and reliably.
• You delve deep into customer data: data quality, causal chains, the right forecast drivers.
• You work AI-first: Agents, LLMs and agentic engineering are part of our toolbox, not a gimmick.
• You help shape the product roadmap and platform by recognizing what truly scales from a platform perspective.
• You engage in intensive exchange with Forward Deployed Engineers, Product and Data Science – and mentor colleagues where your experience is helpful.

Typical fields of application in which you work:

• Replenishment & inventory optimization: from demand forecasting to automated order suggestions.
• Demand Forecasting: Identifying the right forecast drivers, configuration, evaluation against real business figures.
• Setting up a semantic data layer: building the data model and business logic at the customer's site in such a way that forecasts are accurate and evaluations are reliable.
• Setting up Socrates: putting our agent into operation at the customer's site – connecting to the semantic data layer, configuring and evaluating the responses.

Your profile

• At least three years of experience as a data scientist, with hands-on responsibility as the main focus.
• Advanced in Python and confident in SQL, also familiar with pandas, polars, numpy as well as sklearn, pytorch, xgboost or similar.
• Hands-on experience in modeling, ideally time-series forecasting.
• You not only trained solutions, but also put them into production.
• Confident in data analysis and data modeling, including preprocessing, cleaning and exploratory data analysis.
• Confident in formulating and solving mathematical problems.
• You enjoy working directly with the customer and can technically manage a customer case: You lead the technical discussion, classify requirements, and explain results in a way that resonates with the specialist department.
• Curiosity about AI-supported work. Experience with LLMs and agents is a plus; a willingness to learn is essential.
• Fluent German and English skills.
• Bonus: Operations Research, Supply Chain / FMCG, ERP or planning systems, S&OP processes.

Set up

You'll work in a hybrid model: spending most of your time with the team in our Heidelberg office, in close collaboration with Product Engineers, Forward Deployed Engineers, and Data Science. Occasional on-site work at the client's location is also part of the role.

You'll start with your data science skills and grow into the full scope of the role with us: more customer responsibility, greater platform depth, more in-house solutions – with a learning budget, internal mentoring, and real projects as a training ground.
