When you choose Capgemini, you're choosing a company where you have the opportunity to shape your own career path. You'll be supported and inspired by a collaborative network of colleagues around the world and can redefine what's possible. Join us and help the world's leading organizations unlock the value of technology and create a more sustainable, inclusive world.

Your role

Data and artificial intelligence are fundamentally changing public administration. As a Data Scientist in the Public Sector (m/f/d), you will support public sector clients from the initial use case idea to the productive implementation of modern AI solutions and make an active contribution to the digital transformation of federal, state, and local governments.
This position can be filled on a full-time or part-time basis.
  • You advise clients from the public sector (federal, state, and local governments, as well as public organizations) on the conception and development of data-driven AI and data science solutions. The goal is to digitize and accelerate administrative processes and to create tangible added value for authorities, administrations, and citizens – for example, through AI-supported document and text analysis, intelligent service offerings, or the identification of anomalies in administrative and service processes.
  • You will be responsible for the entire solution lifecycle – from data preparation and modeling to integration into existing IT systems and business processes. You will design scalable data architectures and end-to-end data pipelines, ensuring that data governance, cloud governance, quality, integrity, and security are consistently considered as the foundation of modern AI solutions.
  • You will use modern methods in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence, such as machine learning, natural language processing, generative AI, LLM-based applications, and agentic AI. You will utilize hyperscaler platforms, sovereign cloud and infrastructure approaches, and on-premises technologies tailored to the specific requirements of the public sector.
  • You will develop and validate practical AI and automation solutions for specific challenges in public administration, particularly in the area of agentic process automation at the state and local levels – from use case identification and prototype development to near-production implementation.
  • You prepare analysis results in a way that is tailored to the target audience, create visualizations, reports and dashboards, and support workshops, use case definitions and data-driven strategies. In this way, you contribute to establishing modern AI technologies in the public sector and actively shape the digital transformation of public authorities.

Your profile

  • You have successfully completed a degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, or a comparable field. Furthermore, you possess sound practical experience in processing and analyzing large, heterogeneous datasets, as well as in the architecture and development of data-driven solutions for complex business use cases.
  • You possess in-depth knowledge of data science, machine learning, statistics, generative AI, LLM-based applications, and agentic AI. You are able to derive and evaluate results using sound methodologies and translate them into concrete and impact-oriented recommendations for action in various administrative contexts.
  • You are proficient in a modern technical stack for implementing data-driven solutions, particularly Python, SQL, and distributed data processing with Spark. You also have experience in designing and implementing ETL/ELT processes and scalable data pipelines, for example, with AWS Glue, Apache Airflow, or dbt. Additionally, you have knowledge of common frameworks for machine learning and generative AI, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, or LangChain.
  • Ideally, you have experience working with production-like environments, API-based architectures, containerization and platforms such as Docker or Kubernetes, as well as cloud, sovereign infrastructure, or on-premises environments, for example, AWS, Azure, GCP, or StackIT. You also understand cloud governance, data protection, information security, and data governance as essential success factors for AI solutions in the public sector.
  • Ideally, you have experience in customer-facing roles within the public sector, in consulting, or in collaborating with public clients. You can systematically gather the requirements of various stakeholders and translate them into a way that is appropriate for the target audience. Furthermore, you communicate confidently in both German and English.
