Software Engineer Java Full Stack (m/f/d) - for clinical applications and cloud solutions

Within B. Braun Avitum AG, we are seeking a Software Engineer Java Full Stack (m/f/d) for the Center of Excellence Active Medical Devices (CoE AMD) in the Research and Development department, to start as soon as possible. In this role, you will develop, maintain, and optimize modern client/server applications for use in local server environments, making targeted use of cloud-native technologies.

As part of the strategic initiative “B. Braun – The Next Decade”, the Smart Therapy Eco-System offers a variety of digital services and applications that add value to our customers’ medical products.

In the Digital Solutions program, we develop distributed client/server solutions for local server environments using technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Angular, Docker, and Kafka. We rely on Jenkins and Azure DevOps to automate our software delivery processes. You will design and optimize build, test, release, and deployment processes, establish repeatable workflows, and contribute to building a scalable software factory for secure and maintainable product development.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Development : Conception, implementation and maintenance of modern client/server applications for local server environments.
• Frontend : Development of user-friendly, high-performance and maintainable user interfaces using Angular and TypeScript.
• Backend : Development of robust backend services, business logic and REST interfaces using Java and Spring Boot.
• Architecture : Collaboration on service-oriented architectures, modular software components and clear interfaces between frontend, backend and integration layer.
• Containerization : Creating and optimizing Docker-based applications to simplify installation, operation, updates and maintenance on local servers.
• Messaging : Integration of Kafka or comparable messaging technologies for asynchronous communication and event-based system processes.
• Data storage : Development and optimization of data models, data access layers and persistence concepts.
• Testing : Planning and implementation of unit, integration and system tests, as well as support for automated quality assurance processes.
• CI/CD : Collaboration on build, release and deployment processes for locally installable server applications.
• Collaboration : Close collaboration with Product Owners, Requirements Engineers, System Architects, Test Engineers, DevOps Engineers and specialist departments.
• Regulatory : Support with documentation, traceability and verification in a regulated development environment, where applicable.

Professional skills

• Completed studies in computer science, medical informatics, software engineering, electrical engineering or a comparable qualification.
• Several years of experience in the development of client/server applications or distributed web applications.
• Excellent knowledge of Java and Spring Boot.
• Good to very good knowledge of Angular and TypeScript.
• Experience with REST APIs, service-oriented architectures, and backend integration.
• Experience with Docker and containerized applications, ideally in the context of locally operated server solutions.
• Knowledge of Kafka or similar messaging and event streaming technologies is an advantage.
• Experience with relational databases, data modeling, and persistence layers.
• Confident use of Git or Maven as well as common development and build tools.
• Understanding of CI/CD, automated tests and modern software development processes.
• Ideally, experience in regulated development environments, e.g. medical technology/healthcare (IEC 62304).
• Excellent German and English skills, both spoken and written.
