Here's what you can expect:

As a Data Engineer & Architect, you will be part of the IT team at Mercedes-Benz Customer Solutions GmbH. Our team is responsible for the development and operation of our business applications, data solutions, and the underlying technical platforms, which are primarily based on Microsoft and SAP technologies.

You will shape our technical data landscape, from integrating operational source systems to reliably providing data for reporting, analytics, and AI use cases. The focus will be on migrating eXtollo (the cloud-based big data and analytics platform developed by Mercedes-Benz) to a standardized target architecture based on Microsoft Fabric and OneLake, as well as integrating business data from SAP S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and other enterprise systems.

You combine strong conceptual skills with a pronounced hands-on mentality. You develop ETL and ELT processes, data pipelines, semantic data models, and reusable data products. You integrate SAP Datasphere and integration mechanisms such as APIs, OData services, and replication into the Microsoft-centric data platform as needed.

We are looking for a proactive individual with a hands-on mentality, analytical thinking, and high technical quality standards. You will make dependencies transparent, develop pragmatic solutions, and integrate data architecture, business semantics, governance, security, and stable platform operation into a coherent overall picture.

Your area of ​​responsibility:

• End-to-end technical involvement in the migration of eXtollo to a target architecture based on Microsoft Fabric and OneLake, including analysis, design, implementation, quality assurance, and transition to regular operation.

• Development, enhancement and operation of ETL, ELT and data integration processes for data from SAP S/4HANA, SAP HANA, SAP Datasphere, eXtollo, Excel, SharePoint and other relevant sources

• Design and implementation of data pipelines and integrations via APIs, OData services, databases, files and replication mechanisms for a reliable, traceable and scalable data supply.

• Creation and optimization of semantic data models, quality-assured business objects, and reusable data products for reporting, analytics, automation, and AI use cases.

• Development of the technical foundation for a company-wide data catalog, as well as the establishment and maintenance of metadata, data descriptions, responsibilities, origin information, and quality rules.

• Contributing to the definition and implementation of technical standards for data quality, data modeling, data lineage, master data, documentation and the lifecycle of productive data solutions in accordance with governance, compliance and corporate guidelines.

• Development of automated checks and transparent monitoring mechanisms to ensure data quality, completeness, timeliness and technical availability.

• Analysis of existing data flows and process dependencies, as well as identification and implementation of technical potential for transforming manual, Excel-based and isolated processes into integrated, data-driven and semi-automated processes.

• Providing consistent SAP and non-SAP business data in OneLake while preserving the relevant business semantics as a basis for current and future business processes.

• Development of the necessary data pipelines, semantic models and data products for reporting, analytics and AI use cases, as well as transparent mapping of the origin and use of the data.

• Ensuring the stable operation of the data platform and productive data processes, including monitoring, error analysis, root cause analysis, incident and problem management, and performance optimization.

Ideally, you should bring the following:

• Completed studies in computer science, business informatics, data engineering, software engineering or a comparable field, or comparable IT-related training with relevant practical experience.

• Practical experience in the development, enhancement, or operation of modern data platforms and data-driven solutions.

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, OneLake or comparable cloud data platforms, as well as the willingness to further develop the Microsoft core of the target architecture in a sound manner.

• Experience with ETL and ELT processes, data pipelines, data integration, queries, data modeling and connecting different source systems.

• Knowledge of data integration from SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA; experience with SAP Datasphere, SAP BW or comparable SAP data architectures is an advantage.

• A good understanding of semantic data models, business objects and data products, as well as the professional classification of master, transactional and reference data.

• Knowledge of modern integration mechanisms such as APIs, OData services and replication, and understanding of their use in hybrid SAP and Microsoft landscapes.

• A good understanding of data quality, metadata management, master data, data lineage, and the lifecycle of productive data solutions.

• Ability to implement technical solutions hands-on and to translate architecture, security, governance and operational requirements into a viable overall picture.

• Experience with monitoring, structured error analysis, root cause analysis and the sustainable stabilization of productive data processes.

• Analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, high quality standards, and an independent, proactive, and pragmatic way of working.

• Excellent German and English skills, both spoken and written - additional language skills are welcome.
