We, the approximately 160 employees of the University Library of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), use our experience and innovative spirit to create a needs-based and future-oriented range of media and services. Our "Digital Library Infrastructure" department coordinates all of the library's digital processes and systems, as well as digital services from cooperation partners.

Use your knowledge of scientific work gained during your studies for your specialist presentation work, as well as your IT practical experience, for example in the context of the use of LLMs, and expand these further with our help.

Your tasks

  • They help shape innovation management for digital library services and gather requirements through market and user research.
  • They design, develop, test, implement and evaluate digital tools, workflows and IT processes for the university library, with a particular focus on the use of AI, and ensure knowledge transfer through documentation, version management and training formats.
  • They collect, structure, analyze, and visualize media acquisition, media usage, and publication data, and derive recommendations for action for the directorate and departments.
  • They further develop automated evaluation and processing processes, including scripts, interfaces, import and export filters, and data modeling.
  • They design and implement teaching and consulting services for academic work for (doctoral) students, also as online courses, and support their integration into curricula.
  • They network with specialist communities and contribute to the needs-based development of collections and services, including acquisition, licensing, cataloging and collection maintenance.
  • They advise researchers on research, documentation and publication tools, contribute to open science and research support services, and support projects and specialized services such as bibliometrics, research data management or open access.

Your profile

  • Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent), preferably in STEM fields
  • Excellent knowledge of scientific work as well as experience in the planning, management and documentation of projects, ideally in an innovation context.
  • Proven methodological and data competence through the application of statistical procedures as well as advanced programming skills in data analysis and the use of AI
  • Knowledge of university and educational policy structures as well as current developments and services of university libraries; knowledge of collection development and research and publication support (e.g. Open Science) is advantageous.
  • Didactic competence and high media competence, ideally complemented by experience in teaching or adult education and knowledge of relevant tools for creating online courses.
  • Ability to convey complex content in a target-group-oriented manner and to communicate confidently in writing and orally.
  • Service-oriented, reliable and independent work style with strong organizational skills, even under time pressure, as well as enjoyment in learning new topics.
