The University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg (UKGM), with around 10,000 employees at its two locations in Giessen and Marburg, ensures the highest level of medical and nursing care for our 500,000 patients annually.

We are looking for a new team member for the Institute for Digital Medicine at our Marburg location, starting as soon as possible.

Scientific staff member as Data Scientist (m/f/d)

for a temporary full-time position .

The Data Scientist position is situated within an interdisciplinary team comprising physicians, healthcare professionals, computer scientists, data scientists, and researchers in health economics, law/data protection, and ethics. The overarching goal is the scientifically sound development, evaluation, and integration of digital and AI-supported applications into medical care processes.

We are looking for applicants with:
  • Completed university degree (Master's, Diploma or equivalent), e.g. in Data Science, Computer Science, Medical Informatics or a related quantitative field.
  • Solid knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and the methodologically sound evaluation of predictive models; proven experience in the analysis of medical data.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and R and practical experience with relevant libraries and frameworks (e.g. pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, XGBoost or LightGBM; knowledge of PyTorch or TensorFlow)
  • Knowledge of Explainable AI, especially SHAP, as well as in the visualization and comprehensible presentation of analysis results, e.g. with Matplotlib or Seaborn.
  • Experience with LLMs, RAGs, and the structured processing of medical guidelines; experience with API-based delivery of models or services, e.g., FastAPI.
  • Strong scientific approach, high quality awareness, and experience in producing reproducible analyses and scientific publications.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in an interdisciplinary environment, as well as confident communication in German and English.
